Spanish II Layered Curriculum Project & Extra Credit Assignment

Beginning Tuesday, February 19, all Spanish II classes will be working on a Layered Curriculum review project. This project is designed to help you to review concepts learned in Unidad 2 in preparation for the Unit 2 exam which is scheduled to be administered in class on Monday, March 10 or Tuesday, March 11 depending on your class schedule.

It is important to note that the grade on the layered project is a test grade. What this means is that it carries the same weight as the Unit 2 exam. It is in your best interest to strive for an A on this project. It is completely attainable provided you work in school & at home & plan your time accordingly.

You will work in class (6 class periods) & at home to complete a variety of assignments. The project must be finished by Thursday, March 6 or Friday, March 7, depending on your class schedule. On that day (the 7th day), you will not be allowed to work in class & I will sign off on only one activity.

You must first choose activities in the “C” level to earn points. Most activities are worth 10 points each although there are a few that are work 5. If you do not succeed the first time you are assessed on an activity, you may re-do the activity the following day but be aware that each time you submit for work for re-assessment, the number of possible points drops by 2.

Once you have 75 points, you may complete & submit one of the two “B” level activities. Both are to be done in Spanish. The most you may earn on either activity in this category is 10 points. Note that once you are assessed on the “B” level, you may not re-submit the work to earn additional points.

Once I have signed off on your “B” level activity, you may complete & submit one of the two “A” level activities. One is in Spanish & one is in English. Both require some preliminary research. The maximym of 15 points you can earn for either of these activities is 15 points which will bring your total into the “A” range. As with the “B” level, you may not re-submit “A” level projects to earn additional points.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. While I am working on my C level, should I begin my B or A level projects if intend to hand them in?

- Absolutely! I will not look at the B or A level work until you have reached the appropriate number of points however, it is good practice to plan ahead as these activities require additional time & effort. I have rubrics/instructions/samples/web quests available for the “B” & “A” level projects. See me if you want to get started.

2. Will you sign off on more than one activity during a class period?

- I will get to you as often as possible. If you have more than one “C” level project ready, I will look at everything at once.

3. Is there any time other than during class when I can see you to get signed off on activities?

- See me if there is a problem. I am available from 2:25 – 2:40 every day after school if you need to have an activity assessed. In addition, you can come in during your lunch period and work just about any day as long as you see me first.

4. Are there any activities that you recommend to help me to prepare for the Unit 2 exam?

- Yes. I would recommend any activities that relate directly to the vocabulary (activities, places, time). I would also complete the activity related to interrogatives. The monologues & dialogs will help you practice various grammar structures we studied & that will be on the exam. Lastly, I would recommend the 2nd “B” level activity.

5. Can I do more than one “B” or “A” level project for extra credit?

- See my notation at the bottom for an extra credit opportunity for this marking period.

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY:

Once you have completed your layered project and have a achieved a grade in the A range, you may take advantage of the following extra credit opportunity.

You may choose to do an additional “B” or “A” level activity – one that you did not complete for the project. The project will be graded & entered as an additional quiz grade.

This is an optional assignment. You will not be penalized if you choose not to complete it.

I will accept the additional assignment up until Friday, March 28.

See me if you have any questions.
